Nancy and Richie

October 14th, 2022

Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, New York

Our Story

We met each other how more and more couples in the city meet these days -- Online dating. Our first conversation online was about beer -- a theme that continues to this day. We exchanged phone numbers and eventually met for coffee at "The Bean" in East Village after work one day. The coffee was alright, but we ended up walking for a couple of hours in Union Square. Nancy left quite an impression on Richie that day and he refers to this as the "first date".

Richie had a business trip in India for 3 weeks immediately after that date, but we kept in contact. When he returned from India, we met for dinner at "Supper" in East Village. Nancy is a big foodie, and thinks that all good dates need even better food -- Richie also wore a button down shirt and slacks, which is a pretty big deal -- Nancy refers to this as the "first date".

By our fourth date, Richie rented a car and we went on a day trip to Montauk. He is a big fan of the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and thought it was be romantic or something like that. Seven years later, Richie proposed in Montauk and we were happily engaged. I guess the movie was right.

FAQs

Dress code?

Cocktail attire. For ladies, there is a staircase in the brownstone you’ll need to walk up and down so wear shoes you’re comfortable walking up one short flight of stairs in. Our wedding colors will be burgundy and marigold, feel free to wear these colors if you’d like.

Indoor or Outdoor?

Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held in the garden level backyard of the brownstone. Cocktail hour and reception will be on both garden level and parlor level of the brownstone.

How will seating work?

The ceremony will be a combination of mixed seating/standing room only. No sides, sit/stand wherever you’d like. We are having a floating dinner reception so grab your food at the various stations and then sit where you’d like to enjoy it!

Should I tip the bartender?

Maison May is a gratuity included (no tipping) business, so we’ve covered the tip in our booking. Drink without reaching for your wallet. :)

Where To Stay, What to Do

NYC Hotels are really expensive and aren't super close to the venue. Generally, we'd recommend staying at an AirBNB in the neighborhood. Feel free to ask us questions. Avoid budget hotels chains (e.g. LaQuinta, Best Western) and any hotel < $140 / night

Note: We do not have a hotel block or group rate on reserve.

Registry

We live in a one bedroom apartment, which has also become a home-office for two. In lieu of gifts, we're asking folks to make a contribution to a honeymoon fund, if they feel so compelled to do so.
